Instructions

How to use for total alkalinity testing:

  • Fill the Taylor test tube with 5 mL of your water sample.
  • Add 1 drop of Taylor R-0009 to the water sample.
  • Swirl the test tube gently to mix the solution.
  • Observe the color change. If the solution remains green, add another drop of Taylor R-0009 and repeat step 4 until the color changes to a distinct red or pink.
  • Count the number of drops added to reach the color change.
  • Multiply the number of drops by 10 to determine the total alkalinity level in parts per million (ppm).

How to use for free chlorine testing:

  • Fill the Taylor test tube with 5 mL of your water sample.
  • Add 2 drops of Taylor R-0009 to the water sample.
  • Swirl the test tube gently to mix the solution.
  • Add Taylor DPD Free Chlorine Titrant (R-0006) drop by drop until the solution changes color from pink to colorless.
  • Count the number of drops added to reach the color change.
  • Multiply the number of drops by 2 to determine the free chlorine level in ppm.

How to use for combined chlorine testing:

  • Fill the Taylor test tube with 5 mL of your water sample.
  • Add 2 drops of Taylor R-0009 to the water sample.
  • Swirl the test tube gently to mix the solution.
  • Add Taylor DPD Powder Packet (R-0004) to the solution.
  • Swirl the test tube gently to dissolve the powder.
  • Add Taylor DPD Combined Chlorine Titrant (R-0005) drop by drop until the solution changes color from pink to colorless.
  • Count the number of drops added to reach the color change.
  • Multiply the number of drops by 2 to determine the combined chlorine level in ppm.
