The Future of Pool Heating Is Here
AquaCal TropiCal Inverter Pool Heat Pump
The AquaCal TropiCal Inverter Pool Heat Pump represents the next generation of pool heating technology, designed for homeowners who want effortless comfort, maximum efficiency, and a premium experience. As California and other states move toward Title 24 energy requirements, heat pumps are quickly becoming the smart, future-proof alternative to traditional gas heaters.
Powered by full inverter technology, the TropiCal does not simply turn on and off like older heat pumps or gas heaters. Instead, it continuously adjusts its output to maintain the exact water temperature you want while using dramatically less energy and operating at whisper-quiet sound levels.
OPERATING COSTS
Up to 70% lower
QUIET OPERATION
As low as 33 dB
SMART HEATING
Maintains exact temp
Why Heat Pumps Are Replacing Gas Pool Heaters
For decades, gas heaters have been the standard — mostly because that is what everyone knew. But the way people actually use their pools tells a different story.
Gas Heater Reality
- Typically used only a few times per month
- Short, expensive heating cycles
- High fuel costs and utility bill spikes
- Requires gas lines, trenching, and concrete work
Heat Pump Advantage
- Designed to maintain temperature, not just spike it
- Can keep your pool at a perfect 80°F all season long
- Operating costs can be comparable to using a gas heater only a handful of times
- Even greater savings when paired with a solar cover
What really matters
You do not need humidity for a heat pump to work effectively. What matters is ambient air temperature — and in warm climates like California, inverter heat pumps perform exceptionally well.
Full Inverter Technology That Actually Makes a Difference
Think of inverter technology like cruise control for your pool. Instead of constantly cycling on and off, the TropiCal intelligently adjusts output based on water and air temperature to maintain a stable swimming temperature, reduce wasted energy, and operate far more quietly than traditional single-speed systems.
SMART OUTPUT CONTROL
Adjusts automatically
Smoothly responds to water and air temperature instead of blasting at one fixed speed.
STABLE COMFORT
Maintains swim temperature
Helps keep the pool consistently comfortable instead of creating large temperature swings.
LOWER ENERGY WASTE
Up to 70% lower costs
Intelligent modulation helps reduce unnecessary energy use compared to traditional heating methods.
QUIETER PERFORMANCE
Less noise by design
Runs more quietly than older single-speed systems while still delivering consistent heating performance.
Intelligent Operating Modes

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the heat pump delivered?
Your heat pump ships directly from the manufacturer and includes curbside delivery with a lift gate. This means the unit is lowered safely to the ground—no need to unload heavy equipment from the truck yourself.
How long does shipping take?
Most orders ship out within a few business days. Once the unit is on the way, the freight carrier will contact you using the phone number on your order to schedule a delivery appointment.
Will the delivery driver help move the unit into place?
Delivery includes lift gate service to the curb only. The driver will not move the unit beyond the delivery point or assist with placement on the equipment pad.
Are you an authorized AquaCal dealer?
Yes. We are an authorized AquaCal dealer, and all heat pumps are covered by the full manufacturer warranty when purchased through us.
Where does the heat pump ship from?
The heat pump is shipped directly from AquaCal to ensure proper handling, up-to-date inventory, and manufacturer-backed support.
What areas do you ship to?
Shipping is available within the continental United States. We do not ship to P.O. Boxes, APO FPO addresses, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
How do I choose the correct size heat pump?
Proper sizing is important for performance and efficiency. As a general guideline, T70 is recommended for pools up to 15,000 gallons, T100 for pools up to 25,000 gallons, and T130 for pools up to 30,000 gallons. Pool size, desired temperature, run time, and local climate can all affect sizing needs.
Are heat pumps suitable for spas or hot tubs?
Heat pumps are best suited for maintaining comfortable pool temperatures. They are not ideal for rapidly heating spas or maintaining very high temperatures such as 104–110°F.
Do heat pumps work well in Southern California?
Yes. Heat pumps perform based on ambient air temperature. Southern California’s climate makes it an excellent environment for efficient heat pump operation.
